Tad and I are restless on the boat! We know we will not be going any further south this year via the sailing method so we caught a flight to Acapulco!
Again, no reservations so we relied on a friend of a friend to help us find someplace clean and quiet. Well out of the tourist zone, we ended up in Caleta. An old town division of Acapulco. The hotel was cheap at $60 per night. We were definitely not in a place that was used to tourists just popping in! But the room was clean and it ended up being just grand!

We found a sweet little café around the corner where we ate breakfast almost daily. We enjoyed piping hot tamales and best of all, street Tacos! After the first day, the novelty of the gringo factor wore off and we seemed to fit right in with just a few stares. :o)
We walked a lot and toured the downtown area, finding the places that were authentic for lunch. I bought the most beautiful wood bowl from an artist in the street market, one like I had never seen in Mexico! There was a US Coast Guard ship near the cruise ship terminal.
On the last morning we visited the Historic museum. The history in Mexico is SO interesting and complex. We did not realize how much oriental influence there was in this region until we went to the museum.
Acapulco was a bustling city and very noisy. The bus drivers were like 15 year old crazy kids, graffiti art decorated each individuals bus and the music blared. Spring Break was in full swing so the closer we got to the airport, the more American faces we saw. So many college kids, loud and so animated! We happily came back to the quiet of La Cruz.
