Hiking at Princess Louisa

July 6, 2007 – We awoke to the sound of the waterfall just off our stern. Lindsay suggested a picnic so we packed up our mini cooler, put on some hiking shoes and hopped into the dinghy for some exploration.

We first stopped at a small sandy beach area and found a small waterfall area and picked some berries. It didn’t seem like we could do much hiking in that area so we motored over to Chatterbox falls and decided to try the hike to Trapper’s cabin, supposedly 2 hours up the mountainside. We climbed a very demanding trail climbing rocks and tree roots, almost a vertical climb at times. We were muddy and sweaty, the mosquitoes were like a cloud around poor Lindsay! We climbed to 1225m!!

Never finding the cabin site but almost reaching the tree line. Climbing back down was almost as hard. We must have been quite a site coming back into the picnic area! We changed into swimsuits, ate our picnic lunch like hungry wolves and headed over to the smaller falls by our boat for a shower.

We all showered in the cool falls and did some laundry in the buckets with the fresh water. It felt so good! Exhausted, we made the boat ready for an am departure.
