Mailibu Rapids to Princess Louisa

July 5, 2007 – Left Dark Cove at 0920 heading for Malibu Rapids! The journey to the inlet was just beautiful with snow capped mountains and cascading waterfalls on each side. We arrived at the inlet a little early. Lindsay and I sat on the back of the boat and dipped our feet in the water while we waited.

Finally it was time and we carefully navigated through the boot shaped opening. There is a Christian kid’s camp here, we could hear the kids swimming and having a great time, but the cross at the rapids was a little concerning before we discovered what was there! LOL..

It felt like forever before we reached the falls at 1700, but as our Waggoner Cruising Guide states, “it was similar to entering a cathedral with the mile high mountains that drop almost vertically into the deep water (1000 feet deep).” The author Earle Stanley Gardner wrote of Princess Louisa Inlet, “It is more than beautiful, it is sacred.”

We anchored just below a smaller waterfall and again did a bow-stern anchor. Tad headed to the waterfall with the others for a cool shower, Lindsay and I plunked the kayaks in for a perfect paddle and a glance at the larger Chatterbox Falls just beyond our anchor spot.
