~ Siena Tuscany ~

We made it to Siena and it was still raining .. We strolled around the city, shopped and visited Antica Pizzicheria De Miccoli.

The owner, Antonio De Miccoli is a friend of our friends Ed & Rowena.

As soon as we introduced ourselves, Antonio grabbed a bottle of wine and threw together a spread of cheeses, meats, pesto and bread for us and we stood, chatted, laughed and ate like royalty!

We met a friend of Antonio's who was there eating a panini. Antonio teased him relentlessly until we were all wiping tears of laughter off our faces!

We bought some bread and sheep cheese, prosciutto sliced paper thin and made from cinghiale, ricciarelli cookies, panpepato and a bottle of wine.

All bagged up for a planned picnic for tomorrows road trip.

We asked Antonio (per Rowena's request) for the ricciarelli cookie recipe, in which he promptly kicked Tad in the behind for asking!

He was busy making pesto (he only makes once a year!) so we bid him farewell and let him get back to business.

It was late and we were all tired so we went to bed only to be awakened by some serious college student parade noises and all night partying! Apparently there was a big 'football' game the next day. In retrospect, we should have gone out and joined them since we were awake anyhow!

The next morning we stopped by Antonio's shop again just to take an outside photo of the shop and guess who came skipping up! Antonio .. he was out getting a.m. coffee for a lady friend.

It was good to see him once more!

After finding some much needed cappuccino and pastry for breakfast, We walked to the Campanile bell tower and the Cathedral where we found a fruit stand and grabbed some fruit for our pending picnic.

We squeezed back into our little tuna can car with our bags full of culinary delights and headed back towards Florence.
