Manhatton - Ground Zero

oops, we over shot our subway stop, went all the way to Brooklyn and had to catch the train going the opposite way to get back to Manhatton - newbie mistake!

Finally we arrived and made our way down to 'Ground Zero' the nickname for the area formerly occupied by the Twin Towers.

After we walked around the perimeter, we decided to try to find the building that is a proposed controversial building site for a new Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center.

Quite frankly, this was not easy to find even though it is only 2 blocks from Ground Zero. We asked directions a few times. The people we asked did not seem overly emotional about the location and finally pointed us the right way. We were a bit disappointed .. lol, could have missed it very easily. With all the news coverage we get in the PNW, we fully expected picket signs and protesters but all there we came across were 2 bored police officers.

The debate surrounding the appropriateness of having a mosque near ground zero continues and I suspect it will until post election date.

There wasn't really anything to see so we walked toward the Brooklyn Bridge!
