Sunday, Sept. 26th. We got up early and left on train for an little side trip into Switzerland! First we need to get to Tirano, Italy where we would spend the night before taking the Bernina Express through the Swiss Alps to St. Moritz, Switzerland.
We brought a sack lunch and snacked on the train while watching the scenery of farming, mountains, grapes hanging on vines, huge apples, funny goats with long horns and quaint hillside communities.
We arrived in Tirano in the afternoon. We found our hotel, made our reservations for the Bernina Express to leave in the a.m. and then set out to explore.

There was some sort of outdoor market going on and the streets were lined with vendors.

The streets were paved in this arched design which we thought was interesting - we might have to incorporate into our home driveway at some point (?).

Here's Mr. Bean - oops!! I mean Tad, with a cute little car - we told you the cars were tiny here!!

who knew a graveyard could be so beautiful. What a view!

Tons of candy ...

There was also a small carnival going. Although it was threatening rain, It was a nice stroll through the small town.
We had pizza (again) for dinner and turned in, excited about the big trip in the morning.
